The genesis of Genesis
Every company has an identity, history and personality. The struggle in business is to maintain identity, learn from history and allow personal revelation in every product or service. Genesis has been founded, as many others in the past, to face these challenges head on. As of the writing of this particular web page, Genesis is a one man show. I suppose it is easier to infuse identity, history and personality when you're going it alone.
(What) About Bob
As stated earlier, Genesis is currently a one man show. That man is Bob, or me. Despite my age, I believe I bring an interesting mix of experiences to the table. I have experience at every level of the management tree and now, with Genesis, I'm adding ownership (a.k.a. worry) to my resume. It's hard to sum up anyone's experiences in one paragraph, but here goes:
A proud graduate of Grove City College (see links page), I spent three years working sales at a lumber yard, learning the building industry. Through that position, I met my future boss/mentor who hired me away (timing is everything) to take the reins of a local glass shop he was purchasing. For nearly three years, I filled a number of roles. It wasn't uncommon for any single day to include estimating, sales, fabrication, installation, bookkeeping and "mingling" at the office. After great deliberation, I decided to go back to school to chase a PhD. Academia had other plans, though, and my applications were met with rejection. About this time, my boss called again, asking me back on board to start a laser engraving company as an offshoot to the glass shop. The details of that company are a story for another novel, but the bottom line is sixteen months later we were closing up and I was faced with some unexpected deliberation, the result of which is Genesis Engraving.
Does that paint an accurate portrait of my life? No, but it covers my work experience pretty broadly. I could have bored you with stories from my days under the golden arches, but that's neither here nor there. In any case, this is a great introduction to the company, the man and more.
